How Qatar visas work
UAE residence visas come in several flavours. Most expats start with an employment visa, sponsored and paid for by the employer (medical, Qatar ID, stamping, insurance, entry permit). Family members come on dependent visas, sponsored by the resident, with a similar fee structure per person.
The Permanent Residency grants renewable residency to owners of property worth QAR 730,000 or more, and permanent residency from QAR 3,650,000; Permanent Residency under Law 10 of 2018 is by application under a limited annual quota. Self-employment. Self-employment is via the QFC, Media City or a registered company; Qatar has no UAE-style free-zone freelance permit.
An expat employee plus spouse and one child cost roughly: employment visa QAR 2,970 (employer pays) + 2 dependent visas at QAR 2,150 each = a household visa bill of QAR 7,270, plus property and tenancy fees on top.
